My Background

My technical background

I am not a doctor or registered dietician and will never prescribe any therapy or eating program. This blog is meant to be a source of information and a brief summary of my training and experience in eating. Please consult your health practitioner before starting any significant change in eating pattern.

My education: B.S., Plant Science; MS in Plant Pathology, plus a few semesters of work toward a PhD in Plant Pathology. My coursework in chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology was taken during those programs.

Lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In all that time, I can’t say I ever integrated the facts of chemistry with those of nutrition; everything was separated from everything else.

High school (Waldorf) chemistry and biology for 17 years; my task was to integrate everything I’ve learned and to find, to the extent possible, ways to enliven the subject, to find a thoughtful bridge between the mainstream and the alternative. In addition, I love to cook and apply dietary principles to preparing tasty food.
